Lateral
cephalometric skull views are produced to measure facial relationships
and can be used to predict growth patterns for orthodontic treatment.
It is used to create cephalometric tracings and analyses. Use
of a cephalostat makes it possible to position and reposition
the patient's head in a predetermined relationship of the x-ray
beam to the Frankfort plane.
